Our Lady of Fatima: 100 Years of Stories, Prayers, and Devotions

On May 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary first revealed herself to a trio of shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. She would appear to them five more times over the course of the year until the great miracle of the sun on October 13, 1917. She brought a message of love and peace that was heard around the world—a sorely-needed antidote to the ravages of World War I. To mark the 100th anniversary of the apparitions, Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle provides a one-stop guide to the tradition, history and spirituality of Our Lady of Fatima, including the testimonies of those who have made the pilgrimage and prayers for those who share this devotion.

In Our Lady of Fatima, award-winning author, journalist, pilgrimage host and host of EWTN’s Everyday Blessings for Catholic Moms and Catholic Mom's Café Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle offers a mini-Fatima retreat—an “armchair pilgrimage,” if you will. This collection of prayers, testimonies and reflections will bring to life the events of Fatima and help you find ways to apply Mary’s Fatima message to the nitty-gritty details of your daily life.

Each chapter begins with a quote by or about the Blessed Mother before delving into a key aspect of the story of Mary’s appearances to nine-year-old Lúcia Santos and her cousins, Jacinta and Francisco Marto. A prayer, a simple reflection and a doable call to action transform this book from a simple historical retelling into a practical devotional.
The Blessed Mother’s Fatima message is needed now more than ever. The uncertainty of global events can seep into our daily worries, creating fear and anxiety that’s difficult to overcome. Our Lady of Fatima is a welcome remedy for that worry. In it, you’ll find a chance to grow in faith and holiness, as well as a needed dose of inspiration, hope and peace in following its advice and suggestions, and in praying the prayers.

The title described exactly what the book gave us.

I just finished my second reading of the book. I'm thankful that I did. On my first reading I didn't rush through it. I wanted to take in all that it offered. To my surprise, on the second reading I found things that I didn't remember from my first reading.

The book is well structured with a nice flow, is easy to read and spiritually educational. This was a treasure for the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions of Our Lady.

You will feel compelled to step up prayer life and devotion to the daily Rosary!

I appreciate the in-depth description of the Apparitions and the very human experiences of the children Our Lady appeared to in Our Lady of Fatima by Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle*
The book describes how the children were doubted and interrogated and how they bravely continued to pray and do penance and receive the monthly apparitions.
At the end of each chapter, Donna includes A Time to Reflect, In My Own Life and Prayer. Reflecting on the experiences and responses of the children, the author prompts us to reflect and consider what God is calling each one of us to do, to reflect on the experiences in our own lives that have led us closer or further from God. The author includes prayer asking Jesus to guide us and open our hearts and follow Him.
I really like Donna’s style of writing. Her thorough accounts of the Apparitions combined with the thoughtful reflection prompts and prayer really help to relay the messages of Fatima and compel the reader to step up prayer life and devotion to the daily Rosary.

This book is excellent. Our Blessed Mother reminds us during these apparitions that God has given us the key to Salvation! Our Mother's instructions are clearly laid out in the book and thoroughly explained. This book is a spiritual guide to prayer that I will cherish going forward, and the story telling and references are perfect. I treasure this book and wish to share the book and the First Saturday Devotions with everyone!

Sometimes, when we pray, our daily inconveniences, pains and sufferings cause us to turn inward. We petition our Lord to remove these unwanted things from our lives. Jesus knows how hard life can be. He knows how many things can cause our hearts to grow weary.

The Lord is waiting for us, in order to help us. Jesus does not take the Cross from us, but rather He carries it with us. He provides us opportunities to grow in our relationship with Him.

During this 100th anniversary of Fatima, May 13, 1917, let us recognize the daily opportunities that our Lord presents to us and adhere to our Lady of Fatima’s advice: “

“Pray daily, especially pray the Rosary. Offer yourselves to God and bear all the sufferings, as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended and of supplication for the conversion of sinners.”

FULL of useful information about Our Lady of Fatima!

This past May, I became very devoted to Our Lady of Fatima. I am a librarian, and the first thing I do when I become taken with a topic s to look for a book! I was immediately drawn to this one because of the cover art, and the subtitle indicating that personal stories would be included. I was not disappointed.

This book is very comprehensive. Background information is included on all aspects of the visions, the devotion, and the main individuals who were involved. If you are not familiar with a lot of the history of Fatima and Our Lady under this title, you will not feel overwhelmed, at all. Everything is carefully explained. And each chapter provides a very personal narrative about the people and events in question. Also included is a reflection and prayer at the end of each chapter, as well as a section entitled "In My Own Life" with ideas for how the reader may employ the lessons from Our Lady of Fatima in their own day-to-day experiences. This is an excellent book!
