Great read ! Wonderful sense of hearing the truth and not what some sensational media thinks Pope Francis said

some great words of faith, some Roman Catholic propaganda

In my opinion, the mission of the church should be to search for and emphasize the universal elements found in ALL humans, all cultures, and all religions. I believe this is where we will meet Christ, in our Muslim brothers and sisters, in Buddhist monks, in homeless beggars, in atheists. ALL people are God's children, not just those that enjoy the Catholic cultural light. The church needs to relax the walls of Catholic conformity into an awareness of the Universal spirit in all of mankind. True communion leaves no one excluded. This is who Jesus is.

Tom Hoopes is Writer in Residence and Vice President of College Relations at Benedictine College, where he teaches in the Journalism and Mass Communication Department. He writes weekly for the National Catholic Register and Aleteia, reaching a national and international audience. His work has also appeared in Catholic Digest, Columbia magazine, Crisis magazine and First Things online.
