When the Church Was Young: Voices of the Early Fathers

published by Franciscan Media | Trade Paperback | 304 pages
$ 21.99
If the word trinity isn’t in Scripture, why is it such an important part of our faith?
And if the Bible can be interpreted in many ways, how do we know what to make
of it? And who decided what should be in the Bible anyway?

The Church Fathers provide the answers. These brilliant, embattled, and
sometimes eccentric men defined the biblical canon, hammered out the Creed,
and gave us our understanding of sacraments and salvation. It is they who
preserved for us the rich legacy of the early Church.

When the Church was Young: Voices of the Early Fathers

“To be rooted in history is to cease being Protestant."

Incredible, must read

For those who want to know more about the early church this is a great book. It is not an in depth study of each saint, but a compelling overview of their struggles and contributions of our faith tradition today. It is an easy read.

A great gift!

When the Church Was Young

The Voices of the Church Fathers Speak Loud and Clear

This book presents the world of the Early Church Fathers to us in a way that makes them accessible and real. The writing style balances the history and theology of the Early Church Fathers so that the reader can grasp the important contribution they made to the Church without getting bogged down in difficult theological terminology and technicality. I have added it to the reading list of my Patrology course.

Marcellino D’Ambrosio is a world-renowned commentator on religious issues. With a Ph.D. in theology (under Cardinal Avery Dulles), nine years of university teaching, and hundreds of published articles, Marcellino has a wealth of knowledge and knows how to make it accessible for a wide variety of audiences. As “Dr. Italy,” D’Ambrosio has a popular website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed and appears weekly on a variety of Catholic TV and radio networks. He is the coauthor of the million-copy bestseller The Guide to the Passion.
