Alessandro is staying with his grandparents, who run a small shop that sells figures for the presepe (Nativity scene), while his parents look for work in another country. To help with the boy’s loneliness, his grandfather encourages Alessandro to make his own figure of the baby Jesus. They will bring that figure to Rome in two weeks to have it blessed by the Holy Father on Bambinelli Sunday. Through the events that occur in the time leading up to receiving the blessing in St. Peter's Square, Alessandro comes to see his world in a new way, and receives the best surprise of all in the end. This book for children ages 7-10 tells a wonderful story about sharing, comfort, generosity, and forgiveness through the lens of a long-standing Italian tradition. A beautiful Christmas book

My grandblessings love this story.

A new parish tradition

There was a reference to bringing the Infant Jesus from the Nativity a set for a blessing in the sourcebook our parish’s worship ministry uses for planning. We decided to incorporate it into our Advent celebrations. After doing more research we saw video of Pope Francis celebrating the blessing at the Vatican and discovered the book which we ordered. The invitation to bring the Baby Jesus to church for a blessing was well received. We plan to make it a tradition in our parish. Thank you.

Lovely book

The book is a wonderful story with beautiful illustrations. It was a gift and the children 6,8and 3 loved it when read to them or when they read it themselves.

A lesson in Italian culture & how God works all things for the good

Adorable story that both my kindergartner and 3rd grader liked. We read it multiple times during the Christmas season. They always found new questions to ask, and I learned a bit about Italian culture as well. The ending was a nice surprise. It opened up discussions about taking things without asking (#7), comforting the sorrowful (the beatitudes), and honoring your father and mother (or grandfather and grandmother) by being immediately obedient (#4), among other things.
