St Francis A Biography

Bought this for my 14 yr old grandson who chose St Francis as his confirmation name. Found it dry & very difficult to follow; therefore I didn’t give it to him. Not sure I will finish reading it myself.

easy to read

I read this biography 27 years ago during my time if initial formation prior to my Profession in the Secular Franciscan Order. Just recently, I passed along the book to my granddaughter who is starting to discern a vocation. I'm grateful that the book is still available so I was able to have this wonderful resource.

Omer Englebert was born in Belgium in 1893 and died in Jerusalem in 1991. He entered the Order of Friars Minor in 1909 and was ordained a priest in 1924. A few years later he left the order to become a member of the diocesan clergy. He was a historian as well as a spiritual master and he sought to combine the best of the scholarship of his day with the spiritual and societal influences that formed St. Francis of Assisi. He succeeded in producing a classic story of the life of this well-loved saint.
