I wish the author had gone more in his own journey with the life story of Mary. I had hoped that he would help me bring Mary closer to me in these times and help me find her as an active force in my life. She was that some 80 years ago but I let her go behind what the church had brought her to become: an object of adoration, with her “virginity” far above my world of married woman at home raising four children. This book sounded too much like pre-Vatican church theology on her.

Nourishing Love: A Franciscan Celebration of Mary

Insights into the life of Mary

An eclectic exploration of the various aspects of the role of Mary in the life of Jesus and the Church. The historical fiction section was interesting because it described the cultural setting of Israel in the first century AD and filled in the years from the Ascension to the Assumption when Mary was with John. I would have rated it higher but I don't relate to extracting poetic meaning from obscure words and phrases..
