Excellent Resource

I was given this book as a gift and was so taken with it that I gave it as a gift to all the members of my Secular Franciscan fraternity. Not only is each life inspiring, but as a whole the book is a good history of the contribution of Franciscanism to the Universal Church. I'm particularly grateful for the inclusion of so many Secular Franciscans, which certainly broadens the book's appeal.

A Great Resource for the Franciscan Family

I really enjoyed this book. I think that Robert Ellsberg did a good job trying to represent all of the forms and levels of holiness represented in the Franciscan - lay (Third Order Secular) and religious, Sisters and Friars, those on their way toward being canonized and those canonized for a long time. I would only add that I hope that a future edition would Julia Greeley, a Third Order Franciscan whose cause for canonization was opened a few years ago out in Denver. Her's is a great story.

Scrutiny of the Saints

Excellent synopsis of each of the saints mentioned and I found my place among some of them.

Not enough

Not much in the book I did not know from other saint books and it seemed rather sparse. Hard for it to be more edifying for me. Was a little disappointed that their uniqueness was not brought out more.

Lay Franciscan

There are 32 lay Franciscan Saints and I was glad to read about them. so many different ways to follow the Franciscan way of life!
