The Art of Thomas Merton: A Divine Passion in Word and Vision

published by Franciscan Media | Trade Paperback | 192 pages
$ 15.99
The Art of Thomas Merton brings together entries from Merton’s journals, extracts from his letters, quotations from his books and his countless articles, and lines from his poetry. But what truly sets this collection apart is the inclusion of Merton’s abstract drawings—exercises in quiet reflection that convey something of the awareness through silence that he was always eager to explore.

The Art of Thomas Merton

I have given a cursory look at this book and am delighted with what I saw. I look forward to more in depth attention when time permits. I love the incorporation of Merton’s art along with the reflection and the anthology. This is an interesting approach to Merton. I loved it!

Some of Merton’s best

This is a book to savor. I’ve read several Merton anthologies. This book contains some of his best “thoughts” usually in one or two sentences. Each drawing s/b contemplated, then readings, then more contemplation on drawings after readings. They draw you into Merton’s thought. Great for meditating!

Following His Journey

I chose this book to continue following Thomas Merton's works and books about his complex life and his desire to be close to God in many different ways. I like to use this book to meditate and see new ways to find the sacredness in silence and a simpler life. We are all planetary pilgrims in life.

John Moses is Dean Emeritus of St. Paul's Cathedral, a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Religion and Public Life and a tutor for the Oxford Continuing Education Theology Summer School. His books include Divine Discontent: The Prophetic Voice of Thomas Merton,  One Equall Light on the life and writings of John Donne, and The Language of Love: Exploring Prayer.
