Father Dave Pivonka knew that the Camino—the ancient pilgrim path to the tomb of Saint James the Apostle in Santiago—offered an opportunity to focus on God in the stripped-down environment typical of the religious journey known as a pilgrimage.Father Dave takes you along with him, eager to show that God wants to take care of you whether or not you can see down the road or, if tired and sore, you're tempted to quit. His Camino hike holds real lessons for your own life's journey.Stock #: B16882

Thank you for taking me with you!

I very much enjoyed this book. Fr. Dave paints a picture as if you are there seeing what he is seeing and meeting who he is meeting. He made wonderful applications to use in my own spiritual journey.

I have not received the book yet?

Onward and upward!

God’s Providence was at work when I acquired, Hiking the Camino: 500 Miles with Jesus. Not only did it help me to prepare for the patronal feast of my Parish, but it also prepared me for Pope Francis’ penitential pilgrimage to Canada. A really big Blessing to read and ‘chew’ on. I am grateful.

A must read for anyone contemplating walking the Camino

I have read many books on "Hiking the Camino" and this is one of the best. Here is an example of the writing from page 10:
"There are moments in life when we simply have to start walking. We often don't know exactly where we are going or how we are going to get there, but we know that if we are going to move on, if we are going to arrive at our destination, we must begin to walk.
And so I was ready to begin, having little idea what lay ahead but trusting that God would lead me."
Sound advice that applies to making the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, but it can also be applied to our lives at home in regards to decision making. Father Pivonka follows this pattern throughout this thought provoking and informative book. Thoughts about the journey to the tomb of the saint and everything that happens along the way can also be used to anchor at home thinking for every day life. "Hiking the Camino" chronicles a spiritual journey, which is really the most important aspect of any pilgrimage.
As many of you know, Fr. Dave is now president of Franciscan University of Stuebenville and since my eldest son will be attending in the Fall of 2022, I wanted to get to know the man through his writing. I discovered a very thoughtful and deeply spiritual priest. Yet another reason to celebrate my son's decision on a choice of college. I highly recommend this book.
