Inspiring and insightful

I haven’t studied the Psalms very much. This was an insightful look at the ancient texts and how relevant and comforting they are today.

What Was Lost: Seeking Refuge in the Psalms

Our parish hosted an author's roundtable with the author of this book and it was such a nice event! Ms. O'Brien is warm and approachable and speaks with a genuine sense of love for Christ and his Church. She is a person who has every "right" to bitterness regarding the life events she describes in the book but who nonetheless offers a lovely model of humility, trust, and perseverance. Plus she is quite fun to listen to, her way of story-telling is engaging and charming. Highly recommend this book.

Nicely written and easy to read. I enjoyed the way the Psalms were integrated into the writers life. The book also allowed me to see how the Psalms can speak to events or situations in my life as well.

"Maureen O’Brien is the author of the novel b-mother. Her award-winning short stories and poems have been published widely in magazines and anthologies. She lives in Connecticut where she's been teaching creative writing to teenagers for twenty-five years. She holds an M.A in creative writing and a B.A. in philosophy and religion. The contrasts of life—sunrise and dusk, crying and laughter--never cease to amaze her. "
